Injection molding machines depend on fast, repeatable motion control. A non-contact magnetostrictive displacement sensor provides precise linear position feedback for clamp, injection, screw, and ejector axes. It measures position by detecting the interaction between a movable magnet and a magnetostrictive waveguide. Because there is no mechanical contact between the magnet and the sensing element, wear, friction, and sticking are eliminated.
During mold closing, the sensor reports the exact position of the moving platen. This helps the controller switch from fast to slow speed before mold touch, protecting the mold and reducing cycle time. During injection, it tracks screw position to control shot size, holding pressure, and switch-over point. Consistent screw position improves part weight repeatability and reduces scrap. On the ejector axis, non-contact feedback ensures reliable part removal without sensor damage from vibration or oil mist.
These sensors typically offer high resolution, absolute position output, and short response time. They resist shock, vibration, oil, dust, and temperature changes. Common outputs include 4-20 mA, 0-10 V, SSI, and CANopen, allowing easy integration with PLCs and machine controllers. IP67 or higher protection makes them suitable for harsh molding floors.
For injection molding, non-contact magnetostrictive sensors improve accuracy, uptime, and energy efficiency. They reduce maintenance and help build stable, data-driven production for Industry 4.0.
