In chemical plants, high pressure is common. It appears in reactors, hydraulics, compressors, and control valves. Accurate position feedback is vital for safety and efficiency. A high-pressure magnetostrictive displacement sensor is designed for these tough duties.

The sensor uses a magnetostrictive waveguide. A permanent magnet moves with the measured part. When a current pulse passes through the waveguide, it creates a torsional strain pulse at the magnet. The time from launch to echo gives absolute position. There is no contact, so wear is low.

In chemical industry applications, the sensor measures valve lift, pump stroke, cylinder rod position, and damper movement. It handles pressures up to 350 bar with a sealed pressure tube. It offers high accuracy, repeatability, and long-term stability. Outputs include 4-20 mA, HART, SSI, and CANbus.

The housing can be stainless steel or exotic alloy. This resists corrosive chemicals, solvents, and acids. Explosion-proof and intrinsically safe models suit hazardous zones. It also operates over wide temperatures and survives shock and vibration.

For reliable use, choose the right stroke length, process connection, and pressure rating. Proper grounding, shielding, and calibration reduce noise and drift. Regular inspection of seals and cables helps prevent leaks and downtime.

By combining precision with ruggedness, magnetostrictive sensors improve process control in chemical plants. They support safer, cleaner, and more productive operations under pressure.
