Intrinsically safe explosion-proof LVDT displacement sensors are engineered for precise position measurement in hazardous environments where flammable gases, vapors, or dust may be present. An LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) converts linear motion into an electrical signal without physical contact between the core and coils. This contactless design provides excellent repeatability, long life, and resistance to shock and vibration.

For explosion protection, the sensor operates with low energy and is paired with an intrinsic safety barrier or galvanic isolator. The circuit limits voltage and current, preventing sparks or thermal effects that could ignite an explosive atmosphere. A rugged stainless steel housing, sealed connectors, and IP67 or higher protection allow reliable use in oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical plants.

Typical applications include valve position feedback, pipeline actuator control, tank level measurement, and rotary-to-linear monitoring in Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 2, or equivalent classified areas. When selecting a model, consider stroke length, output signal (4-20 mA, 0-10 V, or digital), temperature range, pressure rating, and certification such as ATEX, IECEx, or NEC. Proper installation, grounding, and cable routing are essential for safety and accuracy.
