Installing a turbine flowmeter correctly is vital for accurate measurement and long service life. Choose a location where the pipe is always full and flow is stable. The meter must be installed with its flow arrow pointing in the same direction as the actual pipeline flow. Never reverse it unless designed for bidirectional service. Straight pipe runs are critical. For most liquids, keep at least ten pipe diameters upstream and five downstream. Near pumps, valves, elbows, or reducers, use fifteen to twenty upstream diameters to reduce swirl. Install the meter away from strong vibration and magnetic fields. Support the pipe on both sides so the meter body does not carry mechanical stress. Mount the turbine flowmeter horizontally, vertically, or at an angle if the pipe remains full. For liquid service, avoid downward flow that can create air pockets. For gas, follow the manufacturer's orientation guidance. Use correct gaskets and tighten flange bolts evenly. Ensure the inside diameter matches the pipe bore and remove burrs or weld spatter before installation. A bypass line is recommended for maintenance without stopping the process. Install a filter upstream to protect the rotor from debris. Ground the meter and pipeline according to local codes. After installation, open valves slowly to avoid water hammer. Check for leaks, verify signal output, and confirm zero flow before commissioning. Proper installation improves repeatability, reduces pressure loss, and ensures reliable flow data.
