A rod-type turbine flowmeter is a compact instrument used to measure the flow rate of liquids and gases in pipes. Its rotor is mounted on a slender rod and spins as fluid passes through. The rotational speed is proportional to flow velocity, so the sensor converts pulses into accurate volumetric flow readings. This design suits tight spaces, large ducts, and retrofit projects where a full-bore turbine meter is hard to install.
The meter usually includes a stainless steel body, tungsten carbide bearings, and a pulse output for PLCs, counters, or flow computers. It offers good repeatability, fast response, and low pressure drop. Typical applications include water treatment, chemical dosing, fuel monitoring, hydraulic testing, and process control.
Proper straight pipe runs, filtration, and regular calibration help maintain accuracy. When selected for compatible media, pressure, and temperature, a rod-type turbine flowmeter provides reliable, cost-effective flow measurement.

The rod-type turbine flowmeter is available in various sizes and materials to match different pipelines. Common outputs include 4-20 mA, frequency, and RS485, allowing easy integration with control systems. Its simple structure reduces maintenance needs, while the rotor and bearings can be replaced in the field. For clean, non-abrasive fluids, it can deliver high accuracy over a wide flow range. For dirty fluids, a filter should be installed upstream to protect the rotor. Typical line sizes range from DN15 to DN300.
